What is a Swab-a-Thon?
A Swab-a-Thon is an event where people bring their mixed breed dogs for DNA testing to find out what kinds of breeds make up their dogs.
The host of the event receives a portion of the proceeds from the sale of the test.
The Canine Heritage Breed Test (CHBT) is used to retrieve the DNA samples from the dogs. It consists of rubbing a soft brush along the inside of the pet’s cheek or “swabbing” the dog. The swab is then sent to our lab for breed identification analysis.
Although the CHBT can be purchased on-line and performed at home, a Swab-a-Thon creates a reason for folks to come to your event and bring their dogs. Many pet-owners are less confident about their own “swabbing” ability and prefer an “expert” do it.
How do I host a Swab-a-Thon?
Pick a date: The date you pick should be far enough in the future to ensure the appropriate promotion for maximum results and maximum profits for your organization.

Advertise/promote the event: We have found that the most effective Swab-a-Thons have been heavily promoted through flyers, press releases, email blasts, paid advertising etc. Click here for examples.
Emphasize charity: People will be more inclined to participate if they know that a part of their purchase will go towards helping homeless and/or injured animals. If you are not a shelter, consider partnering with one in your area.
Create a sign-up sheet or pre-registration: This will give you an idea of how many CHBT kits to order and an indication of how successful you may be.
Order the kits: Allow 2 weeks for delivery. Submit your request to info@canineheritage.com or call the customer service line (800) 362-3644. (50% deposit required)
